We understand that there are several questions that come up while choosing the right swim program that works for you and your family's needs.
Please contact us if you have any additional questions.
WHERE DO WE PRACTICE?
Unless otherwise arranged, all lessons will be conducted in your own backyard pool. Your pool must be maintained with all mandatory safety equipment in place along with a first aid kit on-site and a phone nearby in case of emergency.
WHAT IS YOUR CANCELTATION POLICY?
We will swim in the rain, but do not swim if there is lightening in the area. We will assess and discuss with you whether or not a lesson is cancelled due to weather and will endeavor to reschedule the lesson at a mutually agreeable time. In the event your child is sick or unable to attend a scheduled lesson, Pattican Academy requires that you contact us in advance in order not to be charged for the lesson. Any lesson cancelled with less than a 24 hour notice prior to scheduled lesson will result in a full charge for the lesson. A $10 make up lesson fee will be added to more than 2 make up lessons per session. Lessons rescheduled due to weather must be rescheduled within 7 days from scheduled lesson date.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO LEARN HOW TO SWIM?
This is the most popular question asked when inquiring about swim lessons. Unfortunately there is no definite answer to this question because every student, no matter the age, learns at a different pace. Unlike milestones that were created for children learning how to walk and talk at a doctor's office, there are too many factors when it comes to swimming to determine appropriate measurements. After the initial first lesson, your Aquatics Professional can determine an approximate progression rate, and categorize each student's strengths and weaknesses.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF PRIVATE- AT HOME SWIM LESSONS?
In a one-on-one private lesson, students will have little or no distractions.
Student’s skills and confidence progress more quickly.
The convenience of an at home lesson means scheduling lessons at your desired day and time, eliminating the stresses of commuting, and students are more confident in a familiar location.
Lesson plans are customized to student’s skills and goals
Important factor when catering to special needs students
WHAT IS WATER SAFETY?
Water Safety is a well developed plan, and learned set of skills to save yourself in and around the water. This is taught to infants 6 months old+, children, teens, and adults. IT IS NEVER TOO LATE TO LEARN HOW TO SWIM!!
HOW CAN I MAKE MY HOME A WATER SAFE ZONE?
There are several layers of protection when it comes to preventing drownings from occuring.
The MOST IMPORTANT is signing up for Swimming Lessons taught by an Aquatics Professional
Pools should be surrounded by a fence with a self- closing and self-latching gate.
Door Alarms on all doors leading outdoors- Chime turned on to notify parents that you child has opened a door.
Door Locks- Child proofing, and additional top locks.
All parents and caretakers should learn CPR and keep a phone and equipment near the pool in case of emergencies.
HOW CAN I PRACTICE AT HOME?
Practicing at home is a great way to reinforce skills learned during lessons. We encourage students to practice as often as possible to increase progression rates. Children love to show off to their parents; "kicking, bubbles, and back float" in the pool, and even the bath tub. We will walk you through each skill your child is learning so that you can practice with them too!
WHAT IS PATTICAN ACADEMY'S GOAL FOR THEIR STUDENTS?
Our overall goal for each student is the same. We would like to see all of our students to develop the skills, education, and passion to become safe in and around the water. We want our swimmers to not only be good, but GREAT SWIMMERS! The next Michael Phelps? Maybe! There is a world of activities, events, and even careers that in order to participate, patrons must be great swimmers! Swim team, surfing, snorkling, diving, water polo, sailing, fishing, wake boarding, wind surfing, kite surfing, paddle boarding, kayaking, participating in triathlons, lifeguarding, fire fighting, joining the military are just to name a few!
